Applied Family Science (AFS)

500-level courses generally are included in both the undergraduate- and graduate-level course listings; however, specific course/section offerings may vary between semesters. AFS 401. Family Life Education: Principles, Methods Development and Skill Application3 Units

Term Typically Offered: Fall Only

Description: The purpose of Family Life Education is to help families build knowledge and skills so that they capitalize on their strengths to function at optimal levels. Students will learn the history, development, theory and principles of Family Life Education as well as the techniques and methods used in Family Life Education. Students will learn how to assess family-related educational needs (as related to improving current and future family functioning). Students will acquire the knowledge and skill to design, implement and evaluate family life education programs. Students will develop an understanding of how diversity and intersectionality influence family-life education so that they can develop and implement culturally competent educational materials and learning experiences.
