Music Education (MUED)

500-level courses generally are included in both the undergraduate- and graduate-level course listings; however, specific course/section offerings may vary between semesters. MUED 406. Fundamentals of Music Technology for Teaching and Learning1 Unit

Description: This class covers theoretical reasoning and critical thinking related to technology use in addition to practical applications and current available technologies. The course is designed to utilize free, open-source, cloud-based technologies that will be available to K-12 teachers and their students. These technologies will be accessible on students' devices or in the library. By focusing on pedagogical knowledge, we will prepare students to utilize technologies to enhance future learners' musical experiences of creating, performing, responding, and connecting with music in educational and therapeutic settings through technologies.

MUED 505. Introduction to Orff Schulwerk: Music & Movement Education2 Units

Prerequisite(s): Graduate standing, admittance to Teacher Education, upper-division status in Music Therapy, or permission of instructor.

MUED 520. Student Teaching Elementary School - CUE5 Units

Prerequisite(s): MUED 556, 2.75 overall GPA, admission to Teacher Education.

Corequisite(s): MUED 533 and MUED 534.

Description: Experience in the classroom and in the total school program in observation and supervised teaching at the elementary level.

Course Attribute(s): CUE - This course fulfills the Culminating Undergraduate Experience (CUE) requirement for certain degree programs. CUE courses are advanced-level courses intended for majors with at least 90 earned credits/senior-level status., CBL - This course includes Community-Based Learning (CBL). MUED 533. Human Interaction/Professional Growth2 Units

Prerequisite(s): Admission to Teacher Education; MUS 228 and MUED 556.

Corequisite(s): MUED 520 and 534.

Description: For student teacher to apply field experience to a professional philosophy while reflecting on career goals common to K.D.E. and MENC content standards of music education.

MUED 534. Student Teaching Secondary - CUE5 Units

Prerequisite(s): MUS 228, MUED 556, 2.75 GPA, admission to Teacher Education, and completion of 24 hours of teaching major is required.

Corequisite(s): MUED 520 and MUED 533.

Description: Provides supervised observation, participation, and teaching.

MUED 556. Special Methods in Secondary Teaching2 Units

Prerequisite(s): Admission to teacher education and MUS 228.

Fee: An additional $10.00 is charged for this course.

Description: Course addresses the teaching of instrumental and/or vocal music in the elementary and secondary schools.

Note: Taken prior to MUED 520, MUED 533, and MUED 534.
Note: No student may receive credit for both MUED 556 and MUED 605 or MUED 606.
