Music-Applied (MUSA)
Subject-area course lists indicate courses currently active for offering at the University of Louisville. Not all courses are scheduled in any given academic term. For class offerings in a specific semester, refer to the Schedule of Classes.
500-level courses generally are included in both the undergraduate- and graduate-level course listings; however, specific course/section offerings may vary between semesters. Students are responsible for ensuring that they enroll in courses that are applicable to their particular academic programs.
Course Fees
Some courses may carry fees beyond the standard tuition costs to cover additional support or materials. Program-, subject- and course-specific fee information can be found on the Office of the Bursar website.
MUSA 101. Major Applied Study2 Units
Term Typically Offered: Fall, Spring

Description: Applied Music courses carry section designations (see specific semester listing) according to the instrument which a student studies. Students enroll for credit in these sequences according to the amount of literature and study they expect to cover and according to the instructor's assessment of the student's ability to perform. An applied music student working toward a degree will enroll for four hours credit on a major instrument (MUSA 103 or MUSA 113 sequence), for two hours credit on a principal instrument (MUSA 111 sequence) or jazz instrument (MUSA 105 sequence), or one hour credit on an arts instrument (MUSA 125 sequence). All others, including special students, will enroll for one hour credit (MUSA 121 or MUSA 133 sequence). Lessons for applied majors/principals/jazz are one hour per week; secondary/arts/functional are a half hour per week.
